Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) Shutdown Support Services

The challenge for social housing landlords: why you should be concerned

The Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) Shutdown will take place in June 2025

For your tenants reliant on electric storage heating and hot water (ESH/HW), RTS transmits the signal that switches the ESH/HW ‘on’ and ‘off’ in line with the off-peak charging window of the Economy 7 tariff, or equivalent.

ESH/HW is prevalent in the UK’s social housing tower blocks and multi-dwelling units (MDU).

‘The technology that supports RTS meters will be phased out from 30 June 2025. Without the technology to tell RTS meters when to switch between peak and off-peak rates, they may no longer work properly, and it may mean that a consumer’s heatign and hot water supply stops functioning as normal.
