As part of ‘Levelling the Playing Field for Renewable Energy’ project funded by Energy Redress, Connected Response developed a Consumer Access Device (CAD) to read smart meters in real time. For community energy projects, the CAD identifies when a resident’s consumption is in line with the availability of locally-generated energy, thereby allowing their meter to be credited accordingly.

The CAD can be permanently installed as part of the metering equipment, or supplied as a plug-in for the resident to self-install. The CAD reads the smart meter using Zigbee technology, in the same way as a smart meter In-Home Display, and communicates externally via customer or communal Wi-Fi, LoraWAN or GPRS.
